Why We Started Prism
Truthfully?
Prism started because we care deeply about this industry.
We believe that not just anyone should be judging a dance competition.
Kids pour their hearts into their routines. Teachers spend countless hours investing in their dancers. Competition directors spend all season building an event they are proud of. The people sitting behind the table should care just as deeply.
Because adjudicators matter.
They can build confidence in a kid. They can help studios grow. They can inspire dancers to keep going. They can leave an impression that lasts far beyond a weekend.
And if we are being honest, finding the right panel is hard.
Competition directors are balancing so many things: experience, personality, feedback style, professionalism, energy, studio conflicts, fresh faces, trusted names, and finding the right fit for the environment they have worked so hard to create.
That’s where Prism came in.
Our goal was simple: make the process easier, more collaborative, and more thoughtful.
We care deeply about making sure the right judge ends up at the right competition. That means understanding your event, your goals, your vibe, and what matters most to you, then thoughtfully matching adjudicators who genuinely fit.
Prism is not an agency.
We like to think of ourselves as a matchmaking company.
No Gatekeeping
Prism was also built because we wanted to create more opportunity.
For years, we watched passionate, talented professionals struggle to break into adjudication simply because they didn’t know the right people.
That never sat right with us.
We believe great adjudicators should absolutely be experienced, vetted, and prepared, but we also believe there should be pathways for people who care deeply and are willing to put in the work.
No gatekeeping. Just great people, growing the industry.
Why “Prism”?
The name actually means a lot to us.
A prism is built on the strength of three sides, one of the strongest structures there is.
To us, those three sides represent the three adjudicator voices dancers hear throughout a competition weekend.
Each judge brings a different perspective, different expertise, and a different lens. When thoughtfully balanced, those voices work together to create something bigger: dancers feel seen, feedback becomes meaningful, studios grow, competitions thrive.
Just like light passes through a prism and shines brighter on the other side, ideally, dancers leave shining a little brighter than before.
After quietly staffing competitions across Canada for over five years, we decided it was time to bring that work to more events and officially launch Prism.
Because this industry that I have been deeply invested in since the age of 7, deserves judging panels built with intention.
